Houses

In early 2022 Headteacher Ms Japp and Assistant Headteacher Miss Brownell consulted with governors, staff, students and parents about changing the names of the school’s houses.

The new Houses of Beverley High School are: Pat Albeck House, Mary Braddon House, Hilda Lyon House, Margaret Powell House and Mary Wollstonecraft House are unique – a collection of five women from Beverley and the surrounding area – some of whom attended the school as students. Having two former students of the school and people rooted in Beverley and the surrounding area was important so that students really can feel that they are walking in the steps of women who walked the same local streets and/or corridors.

No other school in the world could have the same collection of Houses. The new Houses celebrate the ordinary and the extraordinary and convey a strong and powerful message that you might attend a school in a small East Yorkshire market town, but you can go anywhere, be anything, achieve your dreams and have a lasting impact locally, nationally and even globally.
